Sergeant Jim Smith of the Iowa State Patrol was shot and killed in the line of duty on April 9th, 2021. He lived his life devoted to service to God, his family, and his community. He saw the importance of being an officer in the way he went about the job. By his death, he made the ultimate sacrifice that a law enforcement officer can make, he laid down his life to save others. We hope this website will honor our hero and give people an opportunity to get to know Jim and the life he spent seeking to glorify God each and every day.

His family has created a yearly one-time scholarship in the amount of $2,700 honoring Jim’s 27 years in law enforcement. It will be offered to one graduating high school senior who resides in Iowa. This scholarship is to help those seeking to go into law enforcement or those who have a direct relative who is or has been a Law Enforcement Officer.

Some quotes from Jim...

"The blessings of my life as a State Trooper, like the blessings of my life as a Christian, are much the same. I am broken, lowly, humbled, and then God saves me."

"God does not need me to accomplish His perfect will. It is a blessing to me that our Father God would ever allow me to be part of His plan, and allow me to bring a little justice to our fallen world, and to remind people there is a better way to live. God's way is always better in the end."

"I remember thinking it is true that God uses many people to accomplish His will. I am no more deserving than others, less deserving than many, to have the privilege of doing God's work here on earth. Yet, I often find myself praying that God would use me. Like a small boy praying, "Here I am Lord. Send me."

"God is Good, and He does not have to answer to me. God does not have to explain life to me or work on my time frame. He is God and He is always right."

"Whatever you do in life, see the opportunity to do God's work as the blessing that it is. Don't miss what a privilege it is to do God's kingdom work. To help others. To make a difference when you can."
